The most complicated joint in your body is the shoulder. It’s the place where the upper arm bone, ends of collarbone, and shoulder blade meet. Here, shoulder pain can keep you from freely moving your arm or performing other daily chores. This makes it crucial for you to keep it in shape.
An easy way to stow away shoulder pain is to regularly stretch the muscles supporting the joint. Here are a few stretching exercises to help you achieve the same. And, remember to start early.
● Wall climb
Stand up straight – face the wall – extend the right arm with elbow soft – place your hands on the wall at shoulder height – slowly walk fingers upward – steep in towards the wall as hands climb higher-stop when you feel mild tension in the shoulder – hold for 10 to 30 seconds – walk fingers back down – repeat with both arms.
● Shoulder rolls
Maintain good posture – sit or stand – roll your shoulders – up, back and down – repeat 10 times – roll your shoulder – up, forward, and down – repeat 10 times – you’re all set.
● Shoulder stretch
Stand with feet hip-width apart – left hand on right shoulder – cup left elbow with the right hand – roll shoulders down, and back – pull elbow across the chest – hold – return to starting position and repeat.
● Cross arm stretch
Left arm across your body at the front at about chest height – support left arm with the right arm – stretch out your shoulder – hold for 30 seconds – repeat on opposites sides – you’re good to go.
● Shoulder stretch with rotation
Stand up straight – feet hip-width apart – hands by your sides – place back of the right hand against the small of your back at the wait – fingers pointing up – slide right hand farther up as high as possible – hold and repeat.
● Cat cow pose
Hands underneath your shoulder and knees underneath your hips – inhale and fill your belly with air – let it sink as you look up – round your spine and tuck your chin to the chest – continue this movement for a few minutes.
